Buying Or Selling Kite Gear

Buying Or Selling Kite Gear

It is important that you follow a few simple rules when buying or selling second hand gear.

Be Sure You Know What You're Getting!

Once you have bought an item from a private seller you have no legal comeback if it turns out to be faulty. Therefore, always check the goods thoroughly before handing over your money. We recommend that you fly the kite before parting with any money wherever possible.

Make sure you know exactly what you're going to get before you travel, i.e. does it come with handles, lines, bag, warranty etc. Ask the seller why they are selling it and where they bought it from originally. If possible ask to see their purchase receipt to ensure that the kite is not stolen. If you believe it might be stolen contact the police immediately.

Keep Records

Remember to write down and keep a record of the contact details of the people you are visiting or the people who are visiting you. If, for whatever reason, you are unable to make the appointment, notify them in advance.

Be Careful When Meeting Buyers

For personal safety and to stop rushed purchases always ensure that there is a friend with you when you buy. Remember, four eyes are better than two!

Parting With Cash

Flexifoil recommend that buyers never send cash or cheques through the post or place money directly into a seller's bank account, in advance or on expectation of receiving goods.

Does The Money Exist?

Cash is always the best option. However, you could ask for a personal cheque to be cleared before you part with your goods and offer a receipt as proof of purchase. In the case of bankers' drafts, it could be wise to go to the bank together and watch it being drawn up.

Buy Safe, Fly Safe.

Seek advice about the kite to ensure it is suitable for your level of experience. Always fly in light winds until you are used to the kite. Always wear the appropriate safety equipment.
