Check, check and check again

Safety is all about paying attention. Before launch you should check your lines, connections, kite, protective gear, harness, strap, buggy or board. During a session, check your kit when you take a break and check it again as you pack away.

The best way to check lines is by touch. Walk down their length running the line through your fingers. This way you can feel any knots, frays, abrasions and other potential breaks. Check all connections thoroughly and make sure there are no twists.

While you’re kiting keep checking your surroundings. If you are in motion, particularly in a buggy or on a board, you'll need to constantly take a check on your position and speed whilst looking about for oncoming hazards for yourself and your kite.
