Safety Information - Always fly with safety in mind

Be safe - and live to fly another day

Flexifoil Power and Traction Kites are high performance wings capable of generating a tremendous amount of power.

The thrill of learning to harness and control that power is why we all fly, but it must never be forgotten by beginners and pro's alike that our sport can be dangerous and lead to personal injury or death if you are not careful.

Obey the basic rules of safe flying and you should be fine:

  1. Live to fly but never take unnecessary risks.
  2. Never underestimate the power of the wind.
  3. Read and understand product instructions and safety warnings.
  4. Wear appropriate safety equipment.
  5. Learn to fly your kite in light winds.
  6. Observe local rules and regulations before flying your kite.
  7. Launch at the edge of the wind window in strong wind.
  8. Never fly in winds that are too strong for your skill level or equipment.
  9. Check all your equipment for wear and tear before each flight - repair or replace as necessary or ask your local Flexifoil retailer if unsure.
  10. Never fly your kite near overhead power cables, telephone lines, trees, roads, airports, cars, railways or fly in extreme weather conditions or at night.
  11. Never tether yourself to anything while flying your kite or use power kites for paragliding or parascending.
  12. Test the kite safety system on your first flight and use it if you feel you’re losing control of your kite.
  13. Select a safe launching and landing area free of people, animals and obstacles.

Extra considerations for Kitesurfers' safety

Kitesufers need to be fit, healthy, and be able to swim. Even if you are wearing a wetsuit always keep in mind just how quickly you can become exhausted in the water. If you are getting tired - go back to shore.

Do not attempt to kitesurf until you have completely mastered control of your kite on land.

Instruction should be taken from an officially recognised kitesurfing instructor when going out on the water for the first time.

Never kitesurf in an offshore wind.

Never kitesurf so far away from the shore, that you cannot swim back in an emergency.

Never kitesurf in congested areas with swimmers, boats, water craft, solid obstacles or other water users.

Never kitesurf alone or without a rescue craft on hand. Always have someone watching out for you.

Always wear an officially approved buoyancy aid.

The sea is a recreational resource for many different sports and activities, and in recognition of this fact many local authorities are designating special areas for kitesurfing and banning it from others. Every kitesurfer becomes an ambassador for our sport the moment they launch, so it is important you comply with the local regulations.
